OVERTIME

The University may periodically require overtime or weekend work in order to meet business or production needs. The University Admission department is required to work on weekends when events such as Open House, offsite student recruitment and marketing, and other events sponsored by the University involving recruitment and marketing for potential students. As much advance notice as possible will be given to scheduled Employees. Employees will be expected to work scheduled overtime unless otherwise excused by Human Resources. All overtime work performed by Non-Exempt Employees must be pre-approved, in writing, by the Employee’s supervisor or Human Resources. Non-Exempt Employees working unapproved overtime will be paid for all hours worked, yet may be disciplined, up to and including separation of employment.

Holiday Pay will not count as “hours worked” for purposes of calculating a Non-Exempt Employee’s entitlement to overtime during the week in which the holiday occurs.

Overtime pay rates for Non-Exempt Employees shall be determined by applicable laws and is payable in the following circumstances as of the date of this Employee Handbook:

    • Compensation for hours worked in excess of eight (and up to 12) in a day or in excess of 40 hours in a workweek, or the first eight hours of work on the seventh consecutive day of work, will be paid at a rate of one-and-one-half times the Employee’s regular hourly rate of pay.
    • For hours worked in excess of 12 in a day or hours in excess of eight on the seventh consecutive workday in the same workweek, overtime premium will be calculated at two times the Employee’s regular hourly rate of pay.
