VIOLENCE

The University has zero tolerance for possession of weapons or for violent acts or threats of violence against Employees, customers, vendors, or applicants. No Employee may commit or threaten to commit any violent act against a Co-worker, customer, vendor, or applicant. Any Employee who is subjected to, or threatened with, violence by a Co-worker, customer, or vendor, or is aware of another individual who has been subjected to or threatened with violence, is to report this information to a management official or to the President/CEO and Human Resources as soon as possible. Employee notification of a problem is essential to the University. The University cannot address a problem unless it is made known.

Workplace violence includes, but is not limited to, the following: physical, verbal, or visual threats of any kind; threatening, physically aggressive, or violent behavior, such as intimidation or attempts to instill fear in others, belligerent speech, excessive arguing or swearing, sabotage or threats of sabotage, assault or battery; defacing University property or causing physical damage to facilities; or bringing weapons or firearms of any kind on University premises, in University parking lots, or while conducting University business (with the exception of legitimate security personnel).

If the situation is one of imminent danger, Employees must contact the police or call “911” immediately.

Assume that any threat is serious. Please bring all threats to the attention of the University immediately so that the University may deal with the issue appropriately.

Employees who engage in any type of workplace violence will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including immediate separation of employment.
