PAID SICK LEAVE
Employees who have completed 30 days of employment are eligible for paid sick leave as described below.
-
- Paid sick leave is provided in case of Employee illness, injury, or medical condition, need for medical diagnosis, care (including preventive care) or treatment, or other medical reason, or to care for a family member (defined as a child¹, parent², spouse, registered domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild, or sibling) or designated person who is ill, injured, or receiving medical care, treatment, or diagnosis.
- Paid sick leave is also provided for an Employee who is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking (1) in order to obtain or attempt to obtain any relief, including, but not limited to, a temporary restraining order, restraining order, or other injunctive relief, to help ensure the health, safety, or welfare of the victim or their child; (2) to seek medical attention for injuries caused by domestic violence or sexual assault; (3) to obtain services from a domestic violence shelter, program, or rape crisis center as a result of domestic violence or sexual assault; (4) to obtain psychological counseling related to an experience of domestic violence or sexual assault; and (5) to participate in safety planning and take other actions.
As of January 1, 2021, Employees have the right to designate sick leave for any of these permitted reasons described above. Paid sick leave described herein is subject to the method below.
Employees shall be granted three paid sick days per year on January 1st of each calendar year. Employees who start after January 1st will be granted paid sick leave based upon their date of hire, and again on January 1st thereafter. No accrual or carryover of paid sick leave is provided because the full amount of paid sick leave is granted up-front at the beginning of each year. Eligible Employees may begin using paid sick leave on the 90th day of employment, or immediately if the 90-day period has been previously met.
If the need for paid sick leave is foreseeable, the Employee shall provide reasonable advance notification. If the need for paid sick leave is unforeseeable, the Employee shall provide notice of the need for the leave as soon as practicable to the Employee’s direct Supervisor.
Paid sick leave must be taken in increments of a minimum of two hours per incident. Employees are not permitted to perform work during paid sick leave time, regardless if such work is performed voluntarily.
Employees are not entitled to compensation for unused, accrued paid sick leave upon separation of employment. Paid sick leave does not accrue during most leaves of absence.
