HEALTH SITUATIONS INCREASING RISK IN THE CLINICAL SETTING

Changes in student health status that may affect the safety of the student and/or patient in health care agencies must be reported to the Dean. This includes pregnancy, accident that causes injury, or other mental or physical condition including infectious diseases. A health care provider statement may be required indicating it is safe for the student to function in the clinical area. The School of Nursing will provide reasonable accommodations for student specific needs stemming from a change in health status.

As a part of providing care to ill persons, the student may be exposed to infectious and/or communicable diseases. Costs of testing, diagnosis, and treatment of any infectious and/or communicable disease, including those contracted while acting as a caregiver in clinical experiences, will be the responsibility of the student. The School of Nursing provides instruction to each student regarding Universal Precautions according to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control.
